DYER, Ind. – Northwest Indiana is about to get a whole lot sweeter, as The Original Rainbow Cone (Rainbow Cone), home of the famous, smile-sparking five-flavor cone, recently announced the opening of its newest standalone location in Dyer at 1387 Joliet Street, right across from the iconic Meyer’s Castle.
To showcase the most unique ice cream cone anyone has ever seen, Rainbow Cone in Dyer will host a grand opening celebration on August 30, beginning with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:45 a.m. When the doors officially open at 11 a.m., the first 98 guests in line outside of the shop will be treated to free Rainbow Cones – a testament to the brand’s long-lived, 98-year legacy in the Chicagoland area.
The brand’s bright pink polka dot food truck has also been spotted throughout the community helping to introduce the people of Dyer to the concept’s signature five-flavor cone, which is made up of slices – not scoops – of chocolate, strawberry, Palmer House (vanilla with cherries and walnuts), pistachio and orange sherbet ice cream. Offerings at the Dyer location will also feature a variety of additional ice cream flavors, sliced creations, sundaes, ice cream cakes, mini-donuts and more.
Established restauranteur Yahya Rahahaleh and his partners, who have been in business together for more than 27 years, will own and operate Rainbow Cone in Dyer. Together, they also have experience running several quick-service restaurants across a variety of cuisines within the city of Chicago.
“My team and I are incredibly excited to welcome residents into our shop and witness the delight on their faces when they taste this extraordinary treat for the first time. I have no doubt that the people of Dyer will be as fascinated with Rainbow Cone as I was the first time we visited the brand’s original location in the Beverly neighborhood of Chicago,” said Rahahaleh. “More than anything, we are looking forward to forming relationships with generations of guests the same way that Rainbow Cone’s founders did with their shop.”
Since its founding in 1926, generations of Chicagoans have enjoyed the one-of-a-kind Rainbow Cone. The brand has since expanded across Illinois and beyond with more than 20 permanent locations in addition to seasonal kiosks at famous landmarks such as Navy Pier and Guaranteed Rate Field. Outside of its growth in Northwest Indiana, Rainbow Cone is set to serve up smiles to even more communities in Illinois, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Florida, Texas and California.
“Yahya and his partners came to us with the desire to share an ice cream experience unlike any other with even more communities in Indiana, and we were more than happy to help make it happen,” said Joe Buonavolanto III, Executive Vice President of The Buona Companies, which is made up of Rainbow Cone and Buona, the largest family-owned Italian beef restaurant group and beef producer in the country. “It’s been amazing to watch both Buona and Rainbow Cone become a treasured part of even more communities across the country. We’re aiming to meet the growing demand for iconic Chicago cuisine as we continue our nationwide expansion in the years to come.”
With a family-centered and operator-first approach, Rainbow Cone offers entrepreneurs a chance to establish their own legacies through low start-up and prime costs, and the potential for an above-average return on investment. Ideal franchisees should have relevant restaurant and or business ownership experience, share a passion for quality food and service and are actively involved in the communities in which they are looking to develop in.
